Keep mentally healthy?

Nutrition has an essential role in maintaining healthy brain. Nutrients that you take from what you eat and we feed not only protect cells from the body, but also the brain. To maintain a good health, it is essential to opt for a varied diet containing all the nutrients we need.

Mediterranean Diet – The best – Rich in fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, olive oil and wine red, this diet is the best as it contains all the nutrients our body needs.

A recent study by Columbia University showed that people who followed a Mediterranean diet have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and those already diagnosed with such a disease live longer. Tomatoes, a staple food in this diet are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that fight free radicals, considered one of the causes that trigger Alzheimer’s.

Because is based on foods with low glycemic index is another advantage of this diet. In this category are complex carbohydrates such as bread and pasta, brown rice etc.. White bread, sugar-rich foods and drinks have a high glycemic index, so these products should be avoided.

Omega-3 present in the Mediterranean diet improves mental health. Several studies have demonstrated this. A French research, published recently in the journal of Neurology, show that people who regularly consume foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids risk of developing dementia is reduced by 60%. Omega-3 is abundant in fish oil such as mackerel, salmon, tuna and sardines.

Adequate hydration, necessary at any age. Advice may seem trivial, but an optimal amount of water drunk daily can help you keep your mental health. Every cell in your body needs water to function properly and this thing is true regarding the brain. As we age we tend to drink less water because thirst sensation diminishes. However, this can lead to dehydration. Symptoms include confusion, balance problems and memory loss.

How to prevent dental decay?

Besides a complete oral hygiene, there are other things you can do to prevent cavities:

1. Be careful what you eat

Bacteria especially “LOVE” foods and drinks that contain sugar and carbohydrates. They give power to live, to grow and reproduce, creating cavities and enamel attacks. Most dangerous foods are those sticky, the tendency to remain on the teeth – as sweet, caramel or honey. When they stick on your teeth, these foods can not be removed by chewing or swallowing. Consequently, they provide a permanent source of food bacteria, in which they find the strength to destroy the enamel. The easiest thing you can do after eating is to rinse your teeth really well at the end of the table. It would be ideal to always have a toothbrush with you and use it.

2. Watch the periods in which eating

Acid created by bacteria is neutralized by saliva and expelled out of the mouth. After the acid is removed by saliva, minerals are preparing to repair the enamel attacked by bacteria. Larger intervals between meals offers the opportunity to repair the older portions, while meals very often provides a basis for food bacteria harmful to teeth. Snacks taken after meal are thus less dangerous than those taken between meals. Thus, after eating chocolate right after your main meal will not cause many troubles as a chocolate eaten separately.

3. Relay on Fluorine

Fluoride is a wonder of modern dental. He enters the enamel and hardens it, making them more resistant to these unwanted attacks. Most toothpastes contain enough fluoride to protect teeth. You can consult a pediatrician or dentist to find out if your child receives the necessary fluoride from water.

4. Go to the dentist on a regular basis

The dentist can identify those issues that present potential risks to teeth and can treat in time. Moreover, he can observe closely what are those places that you miss when you brush – and can attract attention in the future to pay more attention.

How to diagnose sinusitis?

The main cause of sinusitis are bacteria, therefore antibiotic treatment is the safest. Sinusitis may be caused by viruses, but in this case antibiotic treatment is not helpful.

Knowing these causes is important because it prevents confusion of how drugs are administered. It is also good to know that colds and respiratory infections are viral diseases that are treated with antibiotics.

Diagnosis with CT (computed tomography) In most cases the diagnosis of acute sinusitis does not require examination. CT diagnosis may indicate the existence of a sinus infection, if these conditions are met:

- Air-fluid level in one or more sinuses to be in equilibrium;
- Total blockage of one or more sinuses;
- Sinus mucosa is bold.

Mucosal thickening can occur in people who do not have symptoms of sinusitis. For this reason, CT diagnosis must be correlated with each person’s symptoms and physical examination.

Diagnosis with ultrasound. The procedure is quick, safe and less expensive than with CT. The disadvantage of this type of diagnosis is that results are not so detailed like TC. Sinus infection diagnosis with ultrasound has not been accepted by the medical community for some areas, for example, around the ears, nose and throat.

UNG diagnostic type (specialized examinations for ears, nose and throat)

If symptoms do not improve and persist after a proper treatment, then you have to make a UNG examination (ear, nose and throat). Because it is specialized for each sinus, it can directly visualize the nasal passages and sinuses entries. This is a fiber optic flexible or rigid that is inserted into the nose for the doctor to see the nasal passages.

UNG examination is less aggressive than the ones already mentioned. During the procedure a doctor inserts a needle into the sinus through skin and bone, to remove liquid, and sent to laboratory for examination. Thus, any bacteria present will be identified and removed by treatment.
